JCB in the Jaher thaan at Gonsaidi |
Abowag Web Page : A place of worship of santhal community
commonly known as 'JAHER THAAN' located at Gasaidi Village under Barabazar
police Station in the district of purulia as being captured illegally by some
non adivasi people on 12th May Tuesday morning.
Jaher Thaan is the
most sacred place of santhals (indigenous people of India) where different
kinds of rituals in the name of Marang Buru, Jaher ayo, and others Gods and
Goddesses performed in different times of the year. It is the oldest place of
worshipping gods and goddesses of santhals. Every village of all district of
west Bengal owned a Jaher Thaan for performing religious activities.
But
unfortunately the Jaher Thaan , owned by santhal community of Gasaidi Village
under Barabazar police station in Purulia district (WB) bearing khatian no 126
, plot no 382, and Jl no 117 was being dispossessed by some non Adivasi people of
the same village on 12th May Tuesday morning, sources said.
"When the
santhal people of the village Gasaidi came to know that the place of worship
'Jaher Thaan' owned by themselves was being labeled for making a Bandh(pond)
with J C B, instantly few santhals men went to the spot and requested the
driver of J C B to stop it. After a moment a group of non- adivasi people also
came to the spot shouting at them and began to threaten, said a villager.
When the situation was
out of control Guddu Majhi, a social worker went to the Barabazar police
station along with some santhal people of the respective village without any
delay for filing an F. I .R. against the attackers. At last an F. I .R. has been
lodged against those aggressors as Satish Mahato, Rampada Mahato, Subal Mahato,
Naran Mahato, Ardhendu Mahato, Madhusudan Mahato, Sudhakar Mahato and many
others under section 188/269/271/295/295A/298/506/341p/ and 51A, source
said.
During the time
of filing an F. I. R. Guddu Majhi, made an appeal to the O.C. to take necessary
actions and look into the matter seriously so that all the santhal community of
the Gasaidi village can act their religious activities at Jaher Thaan as usual
as they had done earlier.
It is alarming that many incidents of
capturing religious places of santhals by non-adivasi are often found in
the page of news though the Govt has declared to occupy religious places
forcefully is punishable.
