Abowag web page : On 7th May : One of the biggest religious
festivals of santals (indigenous people) "KOLKATA KHERWAL MAAG MARE
" was scheduled, to be held on 7th May 2020 Thursday in Kolkata police line
has been postponed or cancelled due to the outbreak of novel corona virus
pandemic, announced the secretary of K.K.M.M organization Mr Manik Ch. Hansda.

Mare' is one of the biggest religious festival of all the santal people in
India. Every year this religious festival, organized in a colourful manner in
the month of May but this year due to lock down, imposed across the country to
contain the spread of novel corona virus only "BANGABURU" of
MARANG BURU, JAHER AYU and other Goddess has been performed with
Sunum(oil), Sindur (vermilion), Towya (milk), Baha (flowers) etc in presence of
some distinguished persons of the organization Mr Kalicharan Murmu (President
of org.), Mr Manik ch. Hansda (Secretary of org.), Rabindranath Hansda (Nayke
Baba), Suklal Murmu (Jaga Nayke Baba), Gorachand Mandi (Godet Baba), Tapan Tudu
(Cultural sec), Chandra Mohan Tudu, Jagadish Sing and Dhananjay Murmu
maintaining physical distancing, said a senior member of the
organization.
It is reported
that K.K.M.M has been continuously being arranged in Kolkata Police Line since
1950. It has been considered as one of the finest religious festival of santal
people. Santhals of every district in west Bengal/India feel proud of
this beautiful festival, for being held in the Capital City Kolkata.

Saren, a high ranked police officer along with his others police friends
started the religious festival K.K.M.M in Kolkata police line in 1950. Since
then, it has been being ran without any break. Every year a large number of
people (approximate 10,000) from different parts of state come to attend the
festival to enjoy. All kinds of books, musical instruments such as Tiriyo,
Banam, Regra and all kinds of essential things are found in the festival in a
very low cost.On the occasion of this religious festival a cultural programme
with some famous and well known artists , to be held every year, reported the
secretary of the organization Mr Hansda. But this year the deadly corona virus
pandemic has been able to stop its continuation.
A huge number of santal people from every part
of the country expressed their sorrow because of being postponed of the
religious festival K.K.M.M. Besides this a valuable festival of santhals
" BORO PATA "(Burudi, Purulia), and "AJODIYA BURU LAW BIR BAISI
"(at Sutantandi, Purulia) have been declared cancellation due to lock
down.
